lyrics from 1-4-09

At Crossings, we've been going through the book of Genesis, and we are currently right in the middle of Jacob...and our pastor has this strange habit of taking the stories we've heard so many times, and show us something new. Yesterday, he talked to us about Jacob, in the middle of running for his life, laying his head on a stone, and having the "ladder/stairway to/from heaven" dream, and then how, immediately after he woke up, took the stone he was laying on, and raised it up as an altar, saying, "Surely The Lord is in this place!" The point that Mark raised was this: God IS in that place, and he has been in that place, and he's with you now, just the way that he has ALWAYS been with you.

With that, here are my lyrics.

i'm distracted by these pretty things
chasing pennies in the middle of the street
and i'm bumping heads with all my friends
because we can't look each other in the eye

and we shield our ears from the hard truth
that you are with us everywhere we go
all we need is to open up our eyes
and see that you are

and our God has
been there
all along
all along
